Beginners Course

BEGINNERS - ENJOY CREATING YOUR OWN WORK OF ART

A student made this mug after two lessons with no experience

In the beginners course you will learn:

Slab Work - slabs are rolled out, decorated with your own patterns, left to harden a little, then Lynette will help you put them together to form the finished article.  Demonstrations are given to help you
Coil Work - Coil pots are built up using strips of clay joined together then smoothed out, all sorts of shapes can be achieved, then decorated.
Mould Work - Moulds can be used as the basis for bowls and platters etc.
How to texture and glaze work - Glazes are applied after the first firing to produce your unique colours, texture and finish
This knowledge will culminate in making a platter, a dish and little milk jug or mug.
All the work is made from slabs , coils, press moulds - not throwing on a wheel. This means that anyone, whatever their skill level can make interesting and beautiful work.

If you continue after the beginners course, with lots of one to one tuition from Lynette you will be able to produce your own ideas, vessels, bowls, sculpture, wall plaques and ...

You need not have done pottery before, hand built pieces can be made in easy stages with help and a guiding hand.
Explore new ideas in texture, decoration, sculpting, shapes and glazes.
